S.O.S. in City Hall: photos

We arrived at the Council first thing in the morning. We looked good.

And then we waited.

The Mayor arrived at 10:00 and greeted our members.

The hearing began. We heard the Council express alarm at the priorities set by the budget, and several Councilmembers called for a change that would save our safety net.

When the Mayor got up to testify, we got up to walk out of the room. But we left our message behind us.

Downstairs we held our own hearing.

Then we broke into groups and headed to each Councilmember's office. We dropped off our proposal (asking for higher tax brackets on the top 5% of DC earners, in exchange for revenue that will save the safety net), and scheduled times for delegations of S.O.S. supporters to meet with each in the coming weeks.  Along with our proposal, we left an S.O.S. mask -- to convey the message that now is the time for heroes.

We'll be back!

A special thank-you to Steve Goldenberg, Burke Stansbury, Saskia de Melker, Greg Bloom, Cecily Whitworth and Rhea Kennedy for helping tell the visual story of our campaign.
